Corrections Officers Issue Law Suit on Sheriff Office

Ok, with everything that’s going on now a days, I’m not surprised that these issues are starting to surface inside the jails/institutions. This particular issue could have been avoided should they had a well trained CERT/SORT team or Corrections Tactical Operarions team of some sort. Now, I’m not familiar with Ramsey County Sheriff's Office so I don’t know if they have one or not, but it is apparent that they did not use it in this case. Individuals like this former officer should be assigned to the tactical team.

This individual should have been categorized as a high risk, high profile, high value inmate....all three! If you have a trained team, and I mean TRAINED!!!!! Then color & gender of the inmate does not matter. All movement to and from this inmates cell should be conducted by this team and this team ONLY! This would reduce any issues because should there be any issues this team should be able to handle it. “If” there is any negative issues on the part of the officers, you know where to start your investigation. But, being that these officers are well trained, there shouldn’t be any issues.

By being well trained, their professional demeanor and skills should show and the department would not have to go through any legal litigation issues nor injuries to anyone or at the very least significantly reduce it. This would also free up line staff to continue to do their daily duties.

They would not be in this legal issue right now. This is why we offer the training and courses that we do and why we train our students to the high standards and tempo that we do!

I urge all command staff in the jails, prisons and institutions to look at their tactical team and invest in professional training for their team. Hand me down training with all of what’s going on is going to put your department in a predicament of possible “cultural” dilemmas. By “cultural dilemmas” we mean, that if the CERT team has a culture of being heavy handed (for example), if you continue passing on that same style of training, nothing is going to change or improve. You have to bring in someone from the outside with updated ideas and training to ensure professional standards are kept and passed on.

New Home for Corrections Tactical Operations

TOG-US has linked up with Counter Terrorism Advance Training Center (CTATC) to bring the Corrections world it’s very first private training center. The partnering of both companies was just a smart and clever move in parts by both companies. CTATC has the infrastructure, with a training center that includes a complete prison compound, used to belonged to the Florida Department of Corrections, decommissioned and now utilized by TOG-US to host corrections tactical operators and their departments. This prison compound includes several wings, chow building, laundry services, and all the other buildings you would find in any correctional institution.

Starting in with the month of December, TOG-US will be running or hosting training(s) in this facility. Included in the course prices is onsite lodging. Being able to train and then at the end of the day just drive back a short way to your small apartment, yep you heard right, apartment. These duplexes are top notch. You can’t beat the stay.

With onsite lodging, training facility and top notch training by some of the U.S. top Corrections Tactical Operations Instructors, and costumer service to match none, you can’t beat or ask for a better training environment.

In-Custody Tactical Vehicle HRT

#tbt here you have a few students finishing up some exercises while conducting an In-Custody Tactical Vehicle HRT. As difficult as it can be to conduct such an operation on a 15 passenger van, add to that: low light, crappy intel, oh....and add to that the fact that there is a cage inside of the van. Yep, this is Corrections Tactical Operarions.

This In-Custody Tactical HRT/Vehicle Ops Course is a week long class and student must first go through our basic In-Custody Tactical HRT Course.

Danger in Corrections: Why the Corrections Tactical Operator NEEDS to evolve

This video shows how dangerous, volatile and explosive the world of a Corrections Officer can be. The new times that we currently live in  different times. Times where inmates having cell phone in their cells with the ability to record themselves and all the things that go on inside their cells and pods.

As you can see from this video, Pepper Spray, sting ball grenades had “0” effect on the determined inmates. They know, expect and prepare for our tactics...the majority of most corrections tactical operations teams still use 1970’s era tactics....if you don’t think they know your tactics and are ready, you’re fooling yourself. Corrections NEEDS to wake up and realize that the days of the “knuckle dragger..6’2, 300lbs, line backer with a shield” are over! Those tactics will only get the officers, Inmate hurt or worse, eventually opening up the department for legal liability issues putting thousands of not millions in the inmates bank account.

We need to change, grow and adapt just like they do. Check the video out, learn and adapt. Be safe, be smart, be vigilant, train hard!!
